Pros:
VERY practical and family-friendly! 5 seats fold in 5 seconds!
Good Volkswagen Group quality interior materials!
Strong Kodiaq identity! No drastic changes, its evolutionary.
Cons:
Competitors offer more equipment and status for its price range.
Now available with plug-in hybrid, but what took so long?
Hard plastic on the door area despite price.
What I like about the new Skoda Kodiaq is the evolutionary design, how it maintains the practicality of the previous generation! The practicality is this good, that the 5 rears seats fold in 5 seconds.
Directly related to the Volkswagen Tiguan, although its notable that the Skoda Kodiaq has a longer wheelbase, which explains the excellent rear seat!
The price of the Skoda Kodiaq I reviewed was around 54k Euros, which is funny because I recently reviewed a Ford Kuga with a similar price range. The difference was day and night. The Ford Kuga saw a nice facelift, but it makes no attempts to looking premium. The Skoda Kodiaq makes far more sense, with the 7 seats, modern technology, and the endless practicality solutions.
However.
In my video, 2024 Skoda Kodiaq review, my first impression was Skoda diluted the Kodiaq identity by introducing Enyac traits on the sight and a Scala-style grill.
What I question is that competitors seem to offer more status or equipment for 54k Euros. That's right, the Skoda Kodiaq is no saint, it has tough competition. Plug-in hybrid is now available, GREAT! But what took so long? Toyota introduced the advanced self-recharging hybrid technology on its Toyota RAV4 since the late 2010s. By 2020-2022, Honda, Hyundai and Kia caught up with that self-recharging hybrid technology.
Primary competitors to the Skoda Kodiaq are the Peugeot 5008, DS 7, Ford Kuga, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail, Renault Espace, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
But the ones that stand out to me are the DS 7, Peugeot 5008, Kia Sorento, Nissan X-Trail and Renault Espace.
The Stellantis duo, DS 7 and Peugeot 5008 have far more status and style in their interiors will make the Skoda Kodiaq seem budget, despite similar price ranges of around 54k Euros. The Peugeot 5008 has seen a new generation, 2024, it is has a far more modernized interior, with additional screens. However, the DS 7 and Peugeot 5008 don't have the best reliability reputation compared to the Volkswagen Group crossovers.
The Kia Sorento is arguably the biggest threat to the Skoda Kodiaq. Great value for money, spacious and premium-looking interior with technology. However the biggest problem for the would be lack of popularity in the EU market. The Kia Sorento is loved by many, but seems like a rare sighting.
The Nissan-Renault Alliance are also the biggest threat to the Skoda Kodiaq, with the Nissan X-Trail and Renault Espace! Great value for money, they both look desirable. The Nissan X-Trail has the Japanese reliability, whilst the Renault Espace has the French styling.
My conclusion about the Skoda Kodiaq. For its price range of 54k Euros, if you can accept that its a family car that won't boast any status, it is great value for money. But if you don't need 7 seats and you seriously expect some premium level interior, competitors offer more.
